Making green building certification easier

GreenRE is Malaysia's homegrown green building certification body, assessing projects against a national green rating standard across Malaysia and the wider region. Certification is rigorous by design — each project moves through several independent assessments involving applicants, expert assessors, and GreenRE's own reviewers, with documents, scorecards, and approvals at every step.

For years, coordinating that work meant spreadsheets. Status lived in scattered files, scorecards were tracked by hand, and there was no single source of truth for where any project stood. It worked, but it did not scale — and a growing certifier needs to scale.

We built the GreenRE Certification & Records Management System (CRMS) to replace that: one platform for the entire certification lifecycle, turning a manual, spreadsheet-driven process into a clean digital workflow that runs in four clear stages.

- PA — Pre-Assessment. The opening review that registers a project and gets its documents in order before deeper assessment begins.
- AA — Actual Assessment. The full assessment of the design against the GreenRE criteria, where the scorecard is built and reviewed.
- SVA — Site Verification Assessment. On-site verification that what was designed and scored was actually built, before certification is awarded.
- RVA — Renewal Assessment. The periodic reassessment that keeps a certification valid over time.

Each stage has its own submission, review, and approval cycle, and the system carries a project cleanly from one to the next — PA to AA to SVA, and RVA when renewal comes due. Applicants and assessors collaborate in one place with role-based access; Letters of Offer and Award and final certificates are generated and tracked in the platform; invoicing is handled in the same flow; renewals are flagged before they lapse; and every action leaves an audit trail. Automated notifications keep each party moving without anyone chasing email.

The result is simple to state and meaningful in practice: green building certification that is faster, more consistent, and far easier to run — freeing GreenRE to certify more projects, more reliably, as demand for green buildings grows across Malaysia and the surrounding region.
